About Johnstown BMX

Johnstown BMX was first started back in 1980, just shortly after the BMX craze hit the East Coast.  As a sport, BMX had its beginnings in the early 1970's out on the West Coast, and was formally organized by the National Bicycle League (NBL) in 1974.  Since then, its popularity has grown immensly, as evidenced by the number of tracks that have sprung up all across the nation.  Its gain in popularity has not gone unnoticed, as the sport of BMX Racing just took a big leap, when it became a Full Medal Sport in the 2008 Summer Games, held in Bejing, China.

"The Most Enduring Track in the NBL"  --- that's how most will describe our track.  It is a “downhill” configuration, with a vertical drop from the starting gate to the finish line that is as high as most telephone poles – 25 feet to be exact.  Although gravity will help to get you to the finish line, along the way you'll have to negotiate an uphill climb, dirt straights, not three 3 but four paved asphalt corners, a long sweeping dirt curve that features our well known “Waterfall Section” and an overall length that is generally considered one of the longest the NBL has to offer.  We can even challenge some of the best BMX’ers out there with our “Pro Section” that cuts off about 16 feet of track, but requires a Racer with the physical aptitude and intestinal fortitude to be able to air it out over a 24 foot wide by 6 foot deep Gulch that is just looking to swallow up those showing even the slightest bit of intimidation.

We are easily accessible by road, train or plane, as we are located between the Bedford and Somerset Exits of the PA Turnpike, just off of Rt.219 - a four-lane highway, minutes from the Johnstown Airport, and the Johnstown Train Station is just a few miles away in downtown Johnstown.-

Over the last few years, we have been averaging about 75 riders weekly, with many outside riders showing up for our State Qualifiers.  Racing is generally held Wednesday Nites over the Summer Months, however, when school is in session, we switch to weekend races - so check the schedule when your ready compete on "The Most Enduring Track in the NBL".

We are fully staffed with a group of Volunteers that are the envy of most tracks.  Plenty of Parking and FREE Camping is available.  We have a fully stocked Concession Stand open at every event, and during major or invitational races that span more than one day, the Concession Stand is open and serves a delicious hot breakfast as well.

If staying in a cozy Hotel is more your thing, then visit the "Johnstown PA" Website for a complete and up-to-date list.    http://www.visitjohnstownpa.com/lodging

It is our goal to provide a safe and enjoyable facility for family members of all ages and abilities to ride bicycles and compete in organized races.  It is our vision to become one of the desired stops of every BMX Racer in the NBL.  If there is anything we can do to improve our facility, please contact any one of our many Volunteers or Track Officers.  We may not have the ability to implement every change right away - but believe us when we say that your recommendation won't go unnoticed.
